Final Tune-Up Before SoCon Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2017) – ETSU’s cross country teams seek to carry the momentum of their last meet into their next meet, and the meets after that, when they take in part of the HPU Vert Invitational on Friday in Kernersville, N.C.

The Bucs swept the women’s and men’s titles in their last event, the USC Upstate Invite, on September 30. Friday’s meet is ETSU’s last tuneup before the Southern Conference Championship on October 28. The NCAA South Regional meet follows on November 10.

Each Bucs squad put two runners in the individual top five at USC Upstate. In the men’s race, freshman Ben Varghese (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 2^nd and sophomore Adam Bradtmueller (Sarasota, Fla.) was 3^rd. For the women, senior Emily Williams-McElroy (Bristol, Tenn.) was 3^rd and freshman Lindsay Stallworth (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 4^th.

Each ETSU team was also well-represented in the top ten at Upstate. Kaitlyn Lay (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Macy Carrier (Bluff City, Tenn.) respectively finished 8^th and 9^th in the women’s 5K race, while Daniel Sonnenfeldt (Knoxville, Tenn.), Nathan Longfellow (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tenn.) crossed the line 8^th, 9^th and 10^th in the men’s 8K.

Friday’s meet is hosted by High Point University and will be held at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex on a looped 2K course. The women’s 6K race begins at 4:00 pm and the men’s 8K starts at 4:45. Seventeen schools are scheduled to participate, including Furman and Wofford from the SoCon.

The HPU Vert Invitational is free and open to the public. Live stats will not be available.
